Learn More about the People behind the Bench Dedications
Every dedicated bench on campus tells a story about the person or organization that made a mark on Western Texas College students and our community.
The Western Texas College Foundation donated the first bench installed on the Western Texas College campus. The bench sits outside of the LRC/Library and faces the peaceful brick courtyard. The Foundation contributed the bench to honor the legacy of all the Westerners that have gone before us and that live on and inspire us today. While more than fifty classes of students have graduated from Western Texas College, the commitment to excellence remains as a foundation for the campus community.
A long-time member of the Western Texas College family, Mickey Baird worked hard to make a positive difference in the lives of WTC students. Kind and helpful, Ms. Baird passed away in 2012, but her memory lives on in her dedication to WTC. Her bench faces the entrance to the Student Center, just outside the bookstore. It commemorates her time as the Director of Student Activities until her retirement in 1997.
A founding member of the Snyder Wheels Car Club, Larry Lee passed away in 2020. His memory lives on in the service he provided through his dedication to the community. To honor their longest-serving member, the Snyder Wheels Car Club donated a bench in Lee’s honor that sits outside the entrance to the Scurry County Museum.
