2017 WTC Distinguished Alumni Award

Jason Tyler '99

The Western Texas College Foundation named Jason E. Tyler as the second recipient of the WTC Distinguished Alumni Award. The highest honor granted to an alumnus of WTC, this prestigious award recognizes outstanding alumni who have demonstrated leadership in their chosen profession and distinguished themselves through service to their community.

Tyler earned an Associates of Arts degree majoring in pre-law and an Associates of Applied Sciences degree majoring in Emergency Medical Services from Western Texas College. He also earned his basic certification as an emergency medical technician from Amarillo College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Services Systems from Texas Tech University.

“I am humbled and grateful to be awarded the Western Texas College Distinguished Alumni Award,” said Tyler.

Tyler moved to Snyder from Pullman, Washington in the fall of 1997. During his time at WTC, he was involved in Student Government where he held the office of Treasurer. Tyler also served as an RA for a residence hall and earned the title Mr. WTC/Campus Favorite 97-98. In addition, he was on the All Texas Academic USA Team for the WTC Phi Theta Kappa Society.

Residents of Snyder may be familiar with Tyler; he is currently the EMS Director for Scurry County EMS.

“I have had the privilege of leading a proactive EMS service, and have the best EMS employees, county support, and medical team an EMS director can ask for,” Tyler noted.

The Western Texas College Foundation is not the first to honor Tyler. The South Plains EMS Organization honored him as the Outstanding EMS Person of the Year in 2014. Texas Tech University Health Science Center, School of Allied Health Sciences also honored Tyler by giving him the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2014.

Tyler is currently involved with Ira Youth Sports and is a member of the National Association of EMT’s, and the Western Texas College Alumni Association.

“I am very fortunate to still be a part of WTC,” said Tyler.
